معرض منى حاطوم في 'دارة الفنون' بعمان: إرساءات غير تقليدية تدين قسوة الحياة وتنتصر للحرية

عمان ـ 'القدس العربي' تشهد قاعات دارة الفنون ـ مؤسسة خالد شومان بعمان خلال هذه الأيام المعرض الخاص بالفنانة منى حاطوم، وهو متنوع في مواده وطريقة صياغتها، فهناك الإرساء للمواد، أو ما يسمى أحيانا ' الإنشاء'، وهناك الفيديو آرت، وأيضا تقنية خيال الظل، ومنحوتات برونزية وفخارية ملونة، وأعمال حديدية، وهذه المواد أنجزتها حاطوم خلال إقامتها في دارة الفنون بالتعاون مع حرفيين أردنيين وأخرى من المجموعة الخاصة لخالد شومان وغيرها أحضرت خصيصاً للمعرض.
وحاطوم فنانة معروفة على مستوى عالمي، من أصل فلسطيني، تلقت تعليمها في كليتَي 'بيام شو للفنون'، و'سليد للفنون الجميلة' بلندن. أنجزت منذ الثمانينيات أعمالاً في فن الأداء، والفيديو آرت، وبدأت منذ التسعينيات بعمل إنشاءات ضخمة ومنحوتات تحوّل المألوف إلى ما هو مقلق، للتعبير عن حالة المنفى الدائم. أقامت معارض فردية في مؤسسات رفيعة المستوى من مثل: مركز بومبيدو، باريس، المتحف الجديد للفن المعاصر، نيويورك، وتيت بريطانيا، لندن. حازت حاطوم في العام جائزة روسويثا هافتمان، وجائزة سوننج نصف السنوية التي تمنحها جامعة كوبنهاغن 'للأشخاص الذين ساهموا في تقدُّم الحضارة الأوروبية'، لتكون بذلك أول فنانة متخصصة بالفنون البصرية تنال هذه الجائزة.
تبدو تجربة حاطوم مغايرة للمألوف، ومتنوعة، فهناك مثلا مجموعة من الأكياس الترابية التي تشبه الحاجز العسكري في المدن، وقد نمت عليها الأعشاب،وفي هذا دلالة على انتصار الحياة على قسوة الموت، وانتشار اللون الأخضر فوق بشاعة اللون الطيني او الصحراوي، هذا عمل ليس فقط من صنع حاطوم بل تساهم الطبيعة في صياغته، والنباتات تتولى دورا واضحا فيه، وهو عمل مستمرالإنشاء وليس ثابتا، أي هو حيوي،ونابض بالحياة وليس لوحة معلقة على جدار أو ارساء حديدياً أكله الصدأ، ثمة أيضا في المعرض أشكال لقنابل ملونة من الخزف، إنها تبدو جميلة المظهر هنا،ولكنها في الواقع تجلب معها الدمار، وهناك اشتغال على خيال الظل، ففي الغرفة المعتمة ضوء لمبة يخترق فانوساً حديدياً فرغته حاطوم على شكل اشكال لجنود مع بنادقهم، وفيما هو يدور حول نفسه يتحرك ظل الجنود على جدران الغرفة المعتمة فيما يشبه العرض السينمائي للفانوس السحري، من الواضح انها فنانة تجيد البحث عن افكار جديدة، مبتكرة، وتصنع من المألوف شيئا مختلفا ومثيرا من الناحية البصرية ،ومن الدلالات التي تحملها . ثمة عرض فيديوي ( فيديو آرت ) لامرأة تمشي في أحد الشوارع جارة خلف قدميها بسطارا عسكريا، أي انها لا تلبس البسطار بل تتحمل ثقله وشدها إلى الخلف، إن قدميها العاريتين، تنوءان بالحمل الثقيل على أرض قاسية، هل يمكن اعتبار أن المرأة هنا ضحية لجنون العسكر والحروب،كل الدلالات ممكنة فالنصوص البصرية هنا مفتوحة على التأويل، وأيضا تمكن مشاهدة حطة فلسطينية يخرج الشعر البشري منها أ وسرير حديدي مع أشواك حادة فوقه، أو سلة من الخيزران لم تكتمل أو منسولة أولا بأول .
تبدو الأعمال بالنسبة للبعض مألوفة ومستهلكة في اليومي والعادي، ولكن هذه هي السهولة الممتنعة، فمن يتقن أن يؤالف بينها، ويخرج من بين مواتها عملا نابضا بالحياة؟ ربما وحدها حاطوم من أتقن ذلك وبكل جرأة،ولهذا لاقت اعمالها الكثير من التشجيع والتكريم، وكتب عنها أيضا المفكر الفلسطيني الراحل إدوارد سعيد مقالا جاء فيه 'في عصر المهاجرين، وحظر التجول، وبطاقات الهوية، واللاجئين، والمنافي والمذابح والخيام وهروب المواطنين... إنها الأدوات الثابتة للذاكرة التي تواجه نفسها وملاحقتها واضطهادها للآخرين'.
تقول في حوار معها أجرته الفنانة جانين انتوني لمجلة بومب النيويوركية ردا عن سؤال عن هويتها وطبيعة أعمالها ايضا :
ا .......لأسباب لن أدخل الآن في تفاصيلها، اكتسبت عائلتي الجنسيةَ البريطانية، وهكذا امتلكتُ جواز سفر بريطانياً منذ ولادتي. نشأت في بيروت في كنف عائلة عانت من خسائر مهولة، وعاشت إحساس من اقتُلع من مكانه. عندما ذهبت في العام 1975 في زيارة إلى لندن، خُطّط لها أن تكون قصيرة، وجدت نفسي غير قادرة على العودة بسبب اندلاع الحرب في لبنان، الأمر الذي جعلني أعيش نوعاً آخر من الاقتلاع من المكان. تجلّت هذه الحالة في عملي على شكل إحساس بالانفصال. على سبيل المثال في عملي المسمى اLight Sentenceب (حكم مخفَّف) تحدث حركة مصباح النور حركةً متواصلة في ظلال الخزائن السلكية، فينشأ إحساس كبير بعدم الاستقرار. وعند الدخول في المكان يتولّد انطباع بأن الغرفة برمّتها تتأرجح، ويصاحب ذلك شعور مقلق بأن أرضية الغرفة تتزحزح تحت الأقدام. هذا جو ما يزال متقلباً باستمرار من غير أن تكون فيه وجهة نظر واحدة أو مرجعية محددة. ثمة إحساس مفعم بالقلق وعدم الاستقرار داخل العمل. هذه إحدى الطرق التي يظهر العملُ فيها متأثراً بخلفيتي. ومن ناحية أخرى فقد مضى عليّ نصف عمري وأنا مقيمة في الغرب، لذلك حين أتحدث عن أعمال مثل احكم مخفَّف'، أو اQuartersب (أرباع)، أو اCurrent Disturbanceب (اضطراب حالي) بوصفها أعمالاً تشير إلى نوع من العنف المؤسساتي، فإنني أتحدث عن التقاء مجموعة بنى معمارية ومؤسساتية في البيئة الحضرية بالغرب، والتي تدور حول إخضاع الأفراد إلى نسق موحد، لتثبيتهم داخل مكان ما ووضعهم تحت المراقبة. ما أحاول قوله هنا إن أعمالي تُعنى بالحقائق المتعلقة بجذوري قدر عنايتها بتقديم صورة أو تصوّر عن البنى المؤسساتية والسلطوية للغرب والتي وجدت نفسي أعايشها على امتداد السنوات العشرين الأخيرة.
وتواصل ردا على سؤال عن طبيعة فنها الاختزالي ومفاهيمه :
' كنتُ شديدة الانبهار بالفنَّين الاختزالي والمفاهيمي خلال دراستي لنيل الشهادة الأولى، وبعد انتقالي إلى الجامعة، وكان هذا لقائي الأول مع مؤسسة بيروقراطية كبيرة، أصبحتُ منشغلة بتحليل بنى السلطة، أولاً في ما يتعلق بالنسوية، وبصيغة أوسع في ما بعد كما هو الحال في العلاقة بين العالم الثالث والغرب. فقد قادني ذلك إلى تقديم أعمال أدائية مليئة بالتحدي وقائمة على قضية معينة، كانت أعمالاً مشحونة بالغضب والإحساس بالمطالبة الملحّة. في وقت لاحق، وعندما دخلت ميدان العمل الإنشائي وصناعة الأغراض، لا أريد أن أقول إنني عدت ثانية إلى جماليات الأسلوب الاختزالي، ولكنني اتبعت اتجاهاً تكثيفياً، حيث يمكن النظر إلى أشكالي بوصفها بنى جمالية مجردة، ولكن بالإمكان أيضاً معاينتها على أنها أقفاص وخزائن ومقاعد وأسرّة وغيرها. بذلك أصبح العمل مليئاً بالتداعيات والمعاني، بل أصبح صورة تعكس الأجواءَ الاجتماعية التي نعيش فيها. وعلى العكس من الفن الاختزالي، فإن هذه الأعمال لا تفصح عن نفسها ' .
وكتبت أليكس أولين مقالا نقديا مطولا عن اعمال حاطوم نشر عام 2002 جاء فيه :
'.. مؤخراً، غادر فن حاطوم إلى مناطق جديدة في الوقت الذي يحافظ فيه على وعي بالقضايا النسوية والسياسية. وبدلاً من إقامة عروض يحضر فيها الجسد حضوراً مادياً، يميل العمل إلى تقديم أغراض منزلية، كالأثاث وأدوات المطبخ، وهي أغراض لا تظهر علاقة الإنسان بها بوضوح، وإنما يحضر الإنسان فيها ضمنياً. غالباً ما يتم احتواء هذه الأغراض في أقفاص وحواجز تعزلها عن المشاهد، كما لو كانت داخل زنزانة. تخلق القطع التركيبية الناتجة التي تخلّى الناس عنها وما تزال مسكونة بحضورهم، أجواءً من الضغينة تشير إلى أنها من مخلّفات أعمال العنف. وبوضع هذه الأعمال بكل عناية داخل فجوة كبيرة من فضاء المتحف، يمكن أن يراها المشاهد على أنها قطع أثرية لحضارة مضطربة وربما متخيّلة، ومن الممكن الحكم عليها من خلال طبيعتها.
في عملها المسمى اHomeboundب (متجه إلى البيت) (2000)، وهو عمل شاركت به حاطوم في معرضها الشخصي الذي أقيم في متحف تيت البريطاني بعنوان: اThe Entire World as a Foreign Land ا (كل العالم كأرض غريبة)، هناك محتويات مطبخ وغرفة نوم معروضة داخل مساحة فارغة خلف سور من الأسلاك. وعلى الرغم من أن هذه الأشياء نقلت من المبنى الذي كان يحتضنها، إلا أنها مرتبة كما لو كانت داخل المنزل: فالكراسي، على سبيل المثال، منتظمة حول مائدة الطعام كما تكون عادةً داخل المطبخ. وفوق المائدة تتبعثر أدوات المطبخ المختلفة: مبرشة أجبان، ومنخل، ومصفاة. يمر داخل هذه الأدوات شريط من مصابيح ضوئية، مشعة ومعتمة، وقد ضُخّم التيار الكهربائي ذي 240 فولتاً الذي يربط بينها ليطلق أزيزاً باعثاً على التهديد. يتضمن أثاث المشهد أيضاً مهداً ومصباح منضدة وقفصَ طائر وأريكة جُرّدت إلا من إطارها الحديدي، ولا يظهر في المكان أي أثر لفَرْشَة أو قماش يلطّف الأطراف القاسية لهذه الأشياء الهيكلية.
أين ذهب الناس الذين كانوا في يوم ما يقيمون في هذا المنزل الغريب وغير المريح؟ إنهم إما تخلّوا عنه أو أُجبروا على إخلائه؛ فالسور المصنوع من الأسلاك قد وُضع إما لحماية المشاهد الواقف في الخارج، أو لحجز العائلة في الداخل. ينبعث من المكان إحساس بوقوع كارثة غير معلومة. أغلب الظن أن المشهد ينطوي على أسرار أحداث غامضة من الماضي، ليتنا نعرف كيف نفسرها..'.
بقيت الإشارة هنا إلى أن السيرة الفنية والحياتية التفصيلية لحاطوم تقول بأنها من مواليد بيروت في العام 1952 لعائلة فلسطينية، أقامت منذ العام 1975 في لندن وعملت فيها. ذهبت إلى لندن في زيارة مبدئية ولكن اندلاع الحرب الأهلية اللبنانية منعها من العودة.
بعد أن أتمت دراستها في 'كلية بيام شو للفنون' و'كلية سليد للفنون الجميلة'، في أواسط الثمانينيات اشتُهرت حاطوم لما أنجزته من أعمال في فن الأداء والفيديو، والتي ركّزت بشكل مكثف على الجسد. وفي مطلع التسعينيات بدأت حاطوم تتجه بشكل أكبر نحو الإنشاءات الضخمة التي تهدف إلى إثارة المشاعر المتضاربة لدى المشاهد، كالرغبة والاشمئزاز والخوف والانبهار. بمرور الوقت، طورت حاطوم لغةً تتحول من خلالها متعلقات المنـزل المألوفة، مثل المقاعد والأسرّة ومهود الأطفال وأواني المطبخ، إلى أشياء غريبة ومُهَدِّدَة، وأحياناً خطرة. حتى الجسم البشري يُصوّر كشيء مجهول في فن الفيديو الإنشائي بعنوان 'جسم غريب' (1994) الذي يتتبع رحلة جهازِ تنظيرٍ داخلي وهو يستكشف زوايا جسمها.
عُرِضَت أعمال حاطوم ضمن معارض شخصية لها في أوروبا والولايات المتحدة الأمريكية وكندا واستراليا. في عامَي 1997-1998 أقيم معرض شامل لتجربتها نظم من قبل 'متحف الفن المعاصر' في شيكاغو، وطاف هذا المعرض في 'المتحف الجديد للفن المعاصر' بنيويورك، و'متحف الفن الحديث' بأكسفورد، و'غاليري اسكتلندا الوطني للفن الحديث' بمدينة ادنبرة. أقامت معارض فردية أخرى في 'مركز جورج بومبيدو' بباريس (1994)، و'مركز كاستيلو دي ريفولي' بتورين (1999). أقامت معرضاً بعنوان 'اضطراب منزلي' في 'سايت سانتا فيه' و'ماس موكا' بأمريكا (2000-2001)، بالإضافة إلى معرض شامل لأعمالها في 'مركز سلمانكا للفن' و'مركز جاليجو للفن المعاصر' بإسبانيا (2002-2003). معرضها بعنوان 'كل العالم كأرض غريبة' كان المعرض الافتتاحي لانطلاقة 'متحف تيت بريطانيا' (2000).
في العام 2004 نُظّم معرض أكثر شمولية لأعمالها بمبادرة من 'متحف هامبرغ للفن'، تضمن أعمالاً إنشائية أُنجزت بشكل خاص لهذا المعرض، ومن ثم طاف في كل من 'متحف بون للفن'، و'متحف استوكهولم للفن ـ مجازيين 3' و'متحف الفن المعاصر' بسيدني. كما وشاركت حاطوم في 'بينالي البندقية' (1995)، و'بينالي اسطنبول' (1995)، و'دوكيومنتا 11' (2002)، و'بينالي البندقية' (2005)، و'بينالي سيدني الخامس عشر' (2006)، و'ترينالي أوكلاند الثالث' (2007).
وقد كان 'بينالي دونا 13' (2008) والذي أقيم في قصر مسّاري بمدينة 'فيرارا' مكرس لمعرض شخصي لها بعنوان 'تيار خفي'. كانت حاطوم فنانة مقيمة في برنامج 'دآد' الألماني (2003-2004)، ومنذ العام 2004 تتنقل بين برلين ولندن. حازت في عام 2004 على جائزة 'سوننج' المرموقة التي تمنحها جامعة كوبنهاغن كل عامين. وحازت على جائزة 'روسويثا هافتمان' في 'زيورخ' بسويسرا.

' كنتُ شديدة الانبهار بالفنَّين الاختزالي والمفاهيمي خلال دراستي لنيل الشهادة الأولى، وبعد انتقالي إلى الجامعة، وكان هذا لقائي الأول مع مؤسسة بيروقراطية كبيرة، أصبحتُ منشغلة بتحليل بنى السلطة، أولاً في ما يتعلق بالنسوية، وبصيغة أوسع في ما بعد كما هو الحال في العلاقة بين العالم الثالث والغرب. فقد قادني ذلك إلى تقديم أعمال أدائية مليئة بالتحدي وقائمة على قضية معينة، كانت أعمالاً مشحونة بالغضب والإحساس بالمطالبة الملحّة. في وقت لاحق، وعندما دخلت ميدان العمل الإنشائي وصناعة الأغراض، لا أريد أن أقول إنني عدت ثانية إلى جماليات الأسلوب الاختزالي، ولكنني اتبعت اتجاهاً تكثيفياً، حيث يمكن النظر إلى أشكالي بوصفها بنى جمالية مجردة، ولكن بالإمكان أيضاً معاينتها على أنها أقفاص وخزائن ومقاعد وأسرّة وغيرها. بذلك أصبح العمل مليئاً بالتداعيات والمعاني، بل أصبح صورة تعكس الأجواءَ الاجتماعية التي نعيش فيها. وعلى العكس من الفن الاختزالي، فإن هذه الأعمال لا تفصح عن نفسها ' .
وكتبت أليكس أولين مقالا نقديا مطولا عن اعمال حاطوم نشر عام 2002 جاء فيه :
'.. مؤخراً، غادر فن حاطوم إلى مناطق جديدة في الوقت الذي يحافظ فيه على وعي بالقضايا النسوية والسياسية. وبدلاً من إقامة عروض يحضر فيها الجسد حضوراً مادياً، يميل العمل إلى تقديم أغراض منزلية، كالأثاث وأدوات المطبخ، وهي أغراض لا تظهر علاقة الإنسان بها بوضوح، وإنما يحضر الإنسان فيها ضمنياً. غالباً ما يتم احتواء هذه الأغراض في أقفاص وحواجز تعزلها عن المشاهد، كما لو كانت داخل زنزانة. تخلق القطع التركيبية الناتجة التي تخلّى الناس عنها وما تزال مسكونة بحضورهم، أجواءً من الضغينة تشير إلى أنها من مخلّفات أعمال العنف. وبوضع هذه الأعمال بكل عناية داخل فجوة كبيرة من فضاء المتحف، يمكن أن يراها المشاهد على أنها قطع أثرية لحضارة مضطربة وربما متخيّلة، ومن الممكن الحكم عليها من خلال طبيعتها.
في عملها المسمى اHomeboundب (متجه إلى البيت) (2000)، وهو عمل شاركت به حاطوم في معرضها الشخصي الذي أقيم في متحف تيت البريطاني بعنوان: اThe Entire World as a Foreign Land ا (كل العالم كأرض غريبة)، هناك محتويات مطبخ وغرفة نوم معروضة داخل مساحة فارغة خلف سور من الأسلاك. وعلى الرغم من أن هذه الأشياء نقلت من المبنى الذي كان يحتضنها، إلا أنها مرتبة كما لو كانت داخل المنزل: فالكراسي، على سبيل المثال، منتظمة حول مائدة الطعام كما تكون عادةً داخل المطبخ. وفوق المائدة تتبعثر أدوات المطبخ المختلفة: مبرشة أجبان، ومنخل، ومصفاة. يمر داخل هذه الأدوات شريط من مصابيح ضوئية، مشعة ومعتمة، وقد ضُخّم التيار الكهربائي ذي 240 فولتاً الذي يربط بينها ليطلق أزيزاً باعثاً على التهديد. يتضمن أثاث المشهد أيضاً مهداً ومصباح منضدة وقفصَ طائر وأريكة جُرّدت إلا من إطارها الحديدي، ولا يظهر في المكان أي أثر لفَرْشَة أو قماش يلطّف الأطراف القاسية لهذه الأشياء الهيكلية.
أين ذهب الناس الذين كانوا في يوم ما يقيمون في هذا المنزل الغريب وغير المريح؟ إنهم إما تخلّوا عنه أو أُجبروا على إخلائه؛ فالسور المصنوع من الأسلاك قد وُضع إما لحماية المشاهد الواقف في الخارج، أو لحجز العائلة في الداخل. ينبعث من المكان إحساس بوقوع كارثة غير معلومة. أغلب الظن أن المشهد ينطوي على أسرار أحداث غامضة من الماضي، ليتنا نعرف كيف نفسرها..'.
بقيت الإشارة هنا إلى أن السيرة الفنية والحياتية التفصيلية لحاطوم تقول بأنها من مواليد بيروت في العام 1952 لعائلة فلسطينية، أقامت منذ العام 1975 في لندن وعملت فيها. ذهبت إلى لندن في زيارة مبدئية ولكن اندلاع الحرب الأهلية اللبنانية منعها من العودة.
بعد أن أتمت دراستها في 'كلية بيام شو للفنون' و'كلية سليد للفنون الجميلة'، في أواسط الثمانينيات اشتُهرت حاطوم لما أنجزته من أعمال في فن الأداء والفيديو، والتي ركّزت بشكل مكثف على الجسد. وفي مطلع التسعينيات بدأت حاطوم تتجه بشكل أكبر نحو الإنشاءات الضخمة التي تهدف إلى إثارة المشاعر المتضاربة لدى المشاهد، كالرغبة والاشمئزاز والخوف والانبهار. بمرور الوقت، طورت حاطوم لغةً تتحول من خلالها متعلقات المنـزل المألوفة، مثل المقاعد والأسرّة ومهود الأطفال وأواني المطبخ، إلى أشياء غريبة ومُهَدِّدَة، وأحياناً خطرة. حتى الجسم البشري يُصوّر كشيء مجهول في فن الفيديو الإنشائي بعنوان 'جسم غريب' (1994) الذي يتتبع رحلة جهازِ تنظيرٍ داخلي وهو يستكشف زوايا جسمها.
عُرِضَت أعمال حاطوم ضمن معارض شخصية لها في أوروبا والولايات المتحدة الأمريكية وكندا واستراليا. في عامَي 1997-1998 أقيم معرض شامل لتجربتها نظم من قبل 'متحف الفن المعاصر' في شيكاغو، وطاف هذا المعرض في 'المتحف الجديد للفن المعاصر' بنيويورك، و'متحف الفن الحديث' بأكسفورد، و'غاليري اسكتلندا الوطني للفن الحديث' بمدينة ادنبرة. أقامت معارض فردية أخرى في 'مركز جورج بومبيدو' بباريس (1994)، و'مركز كاستيلو دي ريفولي' بتورين (1999). أقامت معرضاً بعنوان 'اضطراب منزلي' في 'سايت سانتا فيه' و'ماس موكا' بأمريكا (2000-2001)، بالإضافة إلى معرض شامل لأعمالها في 'مركز سلمانكا للفن' و'مركز جاليجو للفن المعاصر' بإسبانيا (2002-2003). معرضها بعنوان 'كل العالم كأرض غريبة' كان المعرض الافتتاحي لانطلاقة 'متحف تيت بريطانيا' (2000).
في العام 2004 نُظّم معرض أكثر شمولية لأعمالها بمبادرة من 'متحف هامبرغ للفن'، تضمن أعمالاً إنشائية أُنجزت بشكل خاص لهذا المعرض، ومن ثم طاف في كل من 'متحف بون للفن'، و'متحف استوكهولم للفن ـ مجازيين 3' و'متحف الفن المعاصر' بسيدني. كما وشاركت حاطوم في 'بينالي البندقية' (1995)، و'بينالي اسطنبول' (1995)، و'دوكيومنتا 11' (2002)، و'بينالي البندقية' (2005)، و'بينالي سيدني الخامس عشر' (2006)، و'ترينالي أوكلاند الثالث' (2007).
وقد كان 'بينالي دونا 13' (2008) والذي أقيم في قصر مسّاري بمدينة 'فيرارا' مكرس لمعرض شخصي لها بعنوان 'تيار خفي'. كانت حاطوم فنانة مقيمة في برنامج 'دآد' الألماني (2003-2004)، ومنذ العام 2004 تتنقل بين برلين ولندن. حازت في عام 2004 على جائزة 'سوننج' المرموقة التي تمنحها جامعة كوبنهاغن كل عامين. وحازت على جائزة 'روسويثا هافتمان' في 'زيورخ' بسويسرا.

Marx popular amid credit crunch
Karl Marx is back in fashion, says one German publisher, who attributes his new popularity to the economic crisis.
Publisher Karl-Dietz said it sold 1,500 copies of Das Kapital this year - up from the 200 it usually sells annually.
Written in 1867, sales of the tome rarely hit double digits but have been on the rise since 2005.
Marxist economic philosophy - and in particular its Russian Leninist version - fell out of favour with the collapse of the Soviet Union in the late 1980s.
"It's definitely in vogue right now," said the publisher's director Joern Schuetrumpf.
"The financial crisis brought us a huge bump."
He suggested that it was younger Germans who were buying the book unhappy with the direction their elders had led the country.
"There's a younger generation of academics tackling hard questions and looking to Marx for answers," Mr Schuetrumpf said.
But he doubted their perseverance: "I doubt they will read it all the way to the end, because it's really arduous."
Other publishers also print Das Kapital, and German media have reported that bookstores nationwide have seen a 300% increase in sales of the book in recent months.
And suddenly too, some of the all-but-forgotten Marxist philosophers are having their say again, such as the historian Eric Hobsbawm.
"Globalisation, which is implicit in capitalism, not only destroys the heritage and tradition but it is incredibly unstable, it operates through a series of crises, and I think this has been recognised to be the end of this particular era," he told BBC Radio 4's Today programme.

Google launches internet browser
Google is launching an open source web browser to compete with Internet Explorer and Firefox.
Google's new web browser is called Chrome
The browser is designed to be lightweight and fast, and to cope with the next generation of web applications that rely on graphics and multimedia.
Called Chrome, it will launch as a beta for Windows machines in 100 countries, with Mac and Linux versions to come.
"We realised... we needed to completely rethink the browser," said Google's Sundar Pichai in a blog post.
The new browser will help Google take advantage of developments it is pushing online in rich web applications that are challenging traditional desktop programs.
Google has a suite of web apps, such as Documents, Picasa and Maps which offer functionality that is beginning to replace offline software.
"What we really needed was not just a browser, but also a modern platform for web pages and applications, and that's what we set out to build," Mr Pichai, VP Product Management, wrote.
The launch of a beta version of Chrome on Tuesday will be Google's latest assault on Microsoft's dominance of the PC business. The firm's Internet Explorer program dominates the browser landscape, with 80% of the market.

WARSAW--When Apple rolled out its iPhone in the United States, some fans paid big money to be among the first to get their hands on the device. In Poland, people are getting paid to line up.
"We have these fake queues at front of 20 stores around the country to drum up interest in the iPhone," a spokesman said.
As part of a marketing campaign ahead of the iPhone's Friday launch in Poland, the country's largest mobile operator Orange is paying dozens of actors to stand in queues.
Apple sold about one million of the new iPhone models in the United States around the July launch weekend, but buyers in Poland may be reluctant to pay hefty monthly charges.

Cern lab goes 'colder than space'

A vast physics experiment built in a tunnel below the French-Swiss border is fast becoming one of the coolest places in the Universe.
The Large Hadron Collider is entering the final stages of being lowered to a temperature of 1.9 Kelvin (-271C; -456F) - colder than deep space.
The LHC has thousands of magnets which will be maintained in this frigid condition using liquid helium.
The magnets are arranged in a ring that runs for 27km through the giant tunnel.
Once the LHC is operational, two particle beams - usually consisting of protons accelerated to high energies - will be fired down pipes running through the magnets.
These beams will then travel in opposite directions around the main ring at close to the speed of light.
At allotted points along the tunnel, the beams will cross paths, smashing into one another with cataclysmic force. Scientists hope to see new particles in the debris of these collisions, revealing fundamental new insights into the nature of the cosmos and how it came into being.
The most powerful physics experiment ever built, the LHC will re-create the conditions just after the Big Bang.
Currently, six out of the LHC's eight sectors are between 4.5 and 1.9 Kelvin, though all sectors of the machine have been down to 1.9 Kelvin at some stage over the last few months.
By comparison, the temperature in remote regions of outer space is about 2.7 Kelvin (-270C; -454F).
Roberto Saban, the LHC's head of hardware commissioning, said that in order to obtain high magnetic fields without consuming too much power, the magnets were required to be "superconducting".
This is the property, exhibited by some materials at very low temperatures, to channel electrical current with zero resistance and very little power loss.
Helium exhibits spectacular properties at 2.2 Kelvin - becoming "superfluid". This allows it to conduct heat very rapidly, making it an extremely efficient refrigerant.
No particle physics facility on this scale has ever operated at such low temperatures. But, so far, the hardware was performing as predicted, Roberto Saban explained.
"We have a very systematic process for the commissioning of this machine, based on very carefully designed procedures prepared with experience we have gathered on prototypes."
He added: "Our motto is: no short cuts? exchanging a single component which today is cold, is like bringing it back from the Moon. It takes about three to four weeks to warm it up. Then it takes one or two weeks to exchange. Then it needs three to six weeks to cool down again.
"So, you see, it is three months if we make a mistake."
Two sectors of the LHC are currently not cold enough for testing to proceed. Electronics that control the cryogenic systems in these sectors are being moved to an area where they will be better shielded against particles that shoot out of the machine during collisions.
Closing the circle
One sector of the ring is being run as if the LHC was operational and carrying a beam. This is so that crews can de-bug software and hardware and gain experience of running operating cycles.
The LHC's magnets must also undergo electrical testing. Each sector of the machine contains about 200 electrical circuits. Each circuit may consist of as many as 154 magnets or as few as one.
They are being tested for their ability to handle very high currents - up to 12,000 Amps .
"We power each circuit, making sure it goes to its design current. But above all, we are verifying that all the protection systems around it - which are there to detect an eventual quench - are operating as expected," said Roberto Saban.
A quench occurs when some part of the magnet starts to heat up, becoming resistant to electrical current. Engineers have built in a recovery system to detect these quenches before they affect the magnetic field bending particles around the ring and shut off the circulating beams.
The machine's cool-down should take another two weeks to complete, provided no serious problems are found. Electrical testing of the magnets may take another couple of weeks.
Before the LHC is "switched on" for the first time, the proton beams have to be boosted to high energies in a chain of particle accelerators called the injectors.
Once the machine is cold, operators will inject beams into the main ring, threading them through each independent sector of the LHC until they close the circle.
A timing, or synchronisation, system is used to ensure each of these sectors behaves as if they were a single machine.
When the LHC is switched on it will operate at an energy of five trillion electron-volts. It will then be shut down for the winter, so that the magnets can be "trained" to handle a beam run at seven trillion electron-volts.

Types of Printing Prcocesses
Every PR practitioner should be at least aware of the different types of printing processes. The type and quality of your publications greatly decide the success of them. Whether or not your audience takes you seriously or even gives your publication a second glimpse, greatly depends on how your work has been printed. Being familiar with the different processes also allows you to guide yourself to the perfect vendor. Here are nine different ways to execute your printed work.
Offset Lithography - the most common printing process today. It offsets ink from metal plates to a rubber blanket (cylinder) to the paper. Almost every commercial printer does offset printing.
Engraving - think “fine stationery.” Produces the sharpest image of all. Image feels indented (run your fingers over the back side of the sheet). Most law firms still use engraving.
Thermography - raised printing, less expensive than engraving. Uses special powder that’s adhered to any color ink. Mainly used for stationery products.
Reprographics - general term covering copying and duplicating. Think in-house copying departments and copy or quick-printing shops. They take your originals and make duplicates of them.
Digital Printing - the newest printing process and the least understood! Includes all processes that use digital imaging to create printed pieces. Doesn’t use film. (Think desktop to the digital press.) For short-run, fast-turnaround jobs.
Letterpress - the original process founded by Gutenberg in 1440. “Relief” printing (like rubber stamps, images on the plate are higher than the surface). Fine letterpress is being done by fewer and fewer printers.
Screen a.k.a. silk-screening. Ink is forced through a screen following a stencil pattern. Used for binders, t shirts, bumper stickers, billboards.
Flexography - special type of printing for packaging products. The plates used are flexible. Products include cardboard boxes, grocery bags, gift wrap, and can and bottle labels.
Gravure - prints directly from cylinder to paper. Used when printing for millions of impressions think magazines, newspapers, and direct mail catalogs.
